Take Your Packaged Ramen and Make It Better

Ramen.jpg

Once you taste this elevated packaged ramen, you’ll never go back to your boring Ichiban or Mr. Noodles noodles again.

Ingredients

  • 1 Samyang Cheese ramen or Samyang Carbonara ramen package (Find these at H-Mart or your friendly Asian neighbourhood supermarket. If you’re lucky, you can find them at Walmart, Safeway or Sobeys)

  • 1 egg

  • 1 1/2 cup chopped broccoli (fresh or frozen)

  • 2/3 cup kimchi

  • 1 cup milk (your preference)

  • 1/2 cup cream

  • 1 tbsp parmesan cheese

  • 1 stalk of green onion

Instructions

Ramen

  • Bring 1 medium pot of water to boil

  • Once boiling, put in ramen package (be sure to not put in packet sauces yet)

  • After 3 minutes, add the broccoli to the ramen

  • After 2 minutes, remove ramen from the burner and strain until there is roughly 1/2 cup of water left, return ramen & broccoli back to pot

  • Add milk and cream to the pot and return to burner on medium for an additional 2 minutes

  • Take off heat and put in packet sauces

    • If you’re sensitive to spice like me, only add half of the red (spicy) sauce packet

  • Mix in parmesan cheese

  • Place ramen into your favourite bowl

  • Top with your favourite brand of kimchi

  • Add soft-boiled egg (instructions below)

  • Optional but definitely recommended: season with sliced green onion

Soft-boiled egg

  • Bring 1 small pot of water on high heat

  • Once at a boil, gently add egg

  • Boil for 6 minutes

  • Remove egg from pot, place into ice water & de-shell after 2 minutes of cooling

  • If you’re fancy, you would now marinade the egg in soy sauce, garlic & chili oil for 2-24 hours before serving. It’s delicious—but I don’t have the patience for that

  • Cut in half and place as a finishing touch in your ramen!
